Foot Modelling in the UK
Foot modelling sits in the same family as hand work and is cast the same way — separately from the face, often on its own shoot day, and paid on session plus usage. It is one of the least understood categories in commercial casting and one of the steadiest.
Who books foot models
Footwear is the obvious one, and it is only part of it. Hosiery and socks, pedicure and nail brands, foot care and pharmacy, sandals and swimwear, sports and running brands, reflexology and wellness, and a steady stream of e-commerce for retailers who shoot hundreds of product images a season.
There is also doubling for film and television, where a close-up of a foot on a stair, a pedal or a beach is shot separately from the actor it belongs to.
What actually gets you booked
Not perfection. Suitability, consistency and reliability.
- Even skin and well-kept nails. Maintenance matters more than natural shape — this is the one category where upkeep is genuinely part of the job.
- A common sample size. Footwear shoots are built around a sample, so UK 5–6 for women and UK 8–9 for men are booked disproportionately often. Outside that range you will work, but less frequently.
- Straight toes and clean lines. Bunions and heavily overlapping toes narrow the brief list.
- Stillness. Holding a pointed foot under hot lights for a long take is physically harder than it sounds.
What a shoot day is like
Bring the pedicure done, not fresh. Same-day treatment leaves redness. Loose trousers or shorts, and slip-on shoes so nothing marks your feet before the camera sees them. Expect to be barefoot on a cold floor for hours, expect a lot of waiting, and expect the shot to be reset repeatedly for reasons nothing to do with you.
Bring socks and a warm layer. Cold feet look different on camera — the skin mottles — and it is the most common practical problem on a foot shoot.
Rates, usage and why it repeats
Like all commercial work, you are paid a session fee plus a licence for how the images are used: territory, media and duration. Agree the usage at the same time as the day rate, never after.
The reason foot work is worth having on your books is repetition. E-commerce clients shoot every season, and a client who has found feet that fit the sample and turn up on time will rebook the same person for years.
Getting on a foot board
Photographs first: tops, soles and profile, both feet together and singly, plain background, natural light, nails clean and unpolished. No filters. Include your shoe size — it is the first thing a booker checks.
Foot work in our group is booked through the feet board at Hands by TDA, alongside hands, sports and fittings. Commercial and lifestyle bookings run through The Diversity Agency, and if you also act, the same submission can be considered for both — see hand modelling for actors for how the two boards work together.
